For as long as there have been smartphone ambassadors, there have also been the same ambassadors being caught using competing devices. Whether it’s Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot posting about the latest and greatest Android phone, but from an iPhone, or one of the many other celebrities that have fallen foul of the exact same mistake, the idea of someone posting from an iPhone when publicizing a competing Android phone is absolutely nothing new at this point.
But Samsung is taking things to a whole new level by deciding to sue one of its brand ambassadors for a cool $1.6 million.
The ambassador in question is Russian reality TV host and politician Ksenia Sobchak, someone who is supposed to be the public face of Samsung in Russia. As part of that deal, she is required to use a Samsung device – by contract, no less. The problem is, she was seen during a television interview using none other than, you guessed it, an iPhone X.
According to a report by Mirror, this isn’t the first time, either.
Ms Sobchak has reportedly been seen on television, and at some of the hottest social events in the capital city of Moscow, using her iPhone. Her representatives have yet to comment on the story […]
Ms Sobchak – who ran against her Putin in the Russian presidential elections earlier this year – used to have a party girl reputation and was dubbed the Russian Paris Hilton.
She is widely believed to be Putin’s goddaughter though neither has confirmed it publicly.
All we can say to that is “whoopsie.” While that $1.6 million is likely more than the company paid for the endorsement, we wonder just how much she was paid to not use an iPhone in the first place.
