Whether you love or loathe the larger screens Android vendors keep churning out with their smartphones, there’s no denying the quality of the AMOLED displays Samsung continues to manufacture for some of its foremost products. Rumor now has it that the panel-making extraordinaire is working on a 4.99-inch Full HD Super AMOLED ready to be showcased CES and on top of that, may well give consumers a glimpse of the display to be fitted into the Galaxy S IV.
The report stems from Korean site asiae, and although it’s certainly a bit of a leap to presume the purported display will make the final cut of what will undoubtedly be the biggest Android release of next year, merely reading the words “Galaxy S IV” will leave tech fans – particularly those of Android persuasion – naturally beside themselves in anticipation.
The display is said to offer an incredible 441 pixels per inch, which would trounce anything we’ve previously seen in the mobile / handheld market – Apple’s Retina display included. A 5-inch, 1080p display in a Samsung device would be an eye-opener in itself, but if Samsung decides to debut it on the next iteration of the most popular line of Android smartphone to date, the interest from consumers would be absolutely huge.
The Galaxy S IV is expected to be unveiled by Samsung in Q2 of next year, and with HTC putting in a lot of effort to bring 1080p display technology to the smartphone market, Samsung certainly won’t want to be upstaged.
Aside from these speculative rumors with regards to the display, fairly little is known of the South Korean company’s next flagship smartphone. Some have suggested a 12-megapixel camera may be thrown in, while others have indicated the S IV may step up to a 2GHz quad-core Exynos processor. Neither sound beyond the realms of possibility, but as with most of the hardware specs offered thus far, they are based on educated guesswork as opposed to real insider info or leaks.
We will, of course, keep a close eye on any information with regards to the S IV, and in the meantime, we’ll leave you to dream up your ideal specifications for the handset.
