The Samsung Galaxy S6 has proven itself to be an iPhone 6 ripoff even before launch, thanks to a flurry of leaked images floating around the Web, and today we’re learning that the device may ship with a new pair of earphones, bearing striking resemblance to Apple’s EarPods.
Samsung may have gone back to the drawing board to design the Galaxy S6 from scratch, which – if the recent photo leaks are to be believed – does harbor a few elements from the competition, that is the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus. The newly leaked photos of its unannounced earphones may not be a huge concern really, but it gets pretty cheesy if a major – and one of the largest – smartphone manufacturer starts replicating accessories from the competition.
Samsung’s supposed new audio accessory looks exactly like Apple’s EarPods, with a slight distinction being a more flowing extension of the earphone into the ear canal. The design isn’t exactly patent infringing either, but we know Samsung and Apple do like to rough it out on such matters, like they have done so in the past. There’s speculation that for the first time, these earphone from Samsung may just sound better as well, in contrast to disappointing audio quality the company continues to hand out to users through its earphones. There have been reports suggesting that Samsung may have worked with Sennheiser for improving the audio quality on their earphones, but there’s no way to confirm such a thing just yet.
The earphones have a rubberized material to them instead of the glossy plastic found on the EarPods, thereby providing more grip when being adjusted in the ear. Sadly, Samsung continues with the silver colored accents which honestly gives the earphones a very cheap look. It is highly likely that these new earphones will be bundled with the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, which are due for announcement two days from now. But again, there’s a chance that these photos could be nothing more than a Chinese pair of ripoff earphones.
That said, reports did start circling the Web suggesting that Samsung is working on EarPods of its own, but I guess we’ll know at the company’s Unpacked 2015 event at MWC on the 1st of March.
