If you have been finding yourself looking at your worn and tired smartphone with nothing but disdain, and are eagerly awaiting the release of a new Samsung flagship to replace it, then serial leaker Evan Blass could have some great news for you.
The extremely accurate tipster has once again taken to Twitter to publish what he believes are the legitimate specs of the Samsung’s upcoming device, the Galaxy S8+. There are no graphics, visuals, or renders to go along with that which could give an insight into product design, but we do get a deeper understanding of the hardware’s technical capabilities.
Interestingly, the leaked set of information leaves us a bit confused with regards to what the S8+ stands for when you throw in a regular S8 and S8 Edge if there will be any.
Blass is suggesting that with the Galaxy S8+, Samsung could opt for a 6.2-inch display, but would measure in at just 6.1-inches at the “rounded corners”. This of course means an Edge display is present. The display will be Quad HD+ Super AMOLED for stunning visual clarity and experience. Keeping with the visual experience, images displayed on those displays will be captured by a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel main camera, and an 8-megapixel forward-facing module.
From a security perspective, the Galaxy S8+ will ship equipped with an iris scanner quite like the unfortunate Note 7 for an advanced biometric experience which goes beyond just a fingerprint sensor. Samsung will also be building in Samsung Knox to the device, which is essentially the company’s “defense-grade security platform” which immediately makes the device appealing to enterprise.
Additional published specifications include an internal 64GB storage capacity, expandable through the use of microSD card, and 4GB of RAM. While the processor has not been listed in the leaked specs sheet, Blass has suggested that the the S8+ will be the first Android phone out there with the Snapdragon 835 SoC. Again, no Android version specified, but we can expect Android 7.0 Nougat to be running out-of-the-box.
The S8+ will support Samsung Pay, and wireless charging capabilities, albeit with owners having to purchase the charging pad separately.
All-in-all, it sounds like an extremely capable device, put essentially into a class of its own as the first smartphone to ship with the Snapdragon 835. However, specification aside, what exactly will Samsung produce from an aesthetic point-of-view? As with the iPhone 8, all eyes will be on the exterior and physical presence of this one.
