The Samsung Galaxy S6 could end up with not one, not two, but a three sided curved edge display, according to a new report. A definite extreme by Samsung, we take a closer look at the details that follow.
The hype that surrounds Samsung’s Project Zero is noteworthy despite the recent dismal performance of its flagship phones in the market, prompting the Seoul based electronics giant to go back to the drawing board for designing the S6 from scratch. We know the phone will have a premium built to it, but what’s caught the fans’ attention for some time has been the rumored variant of the S6 with a curved edge display – otherwise known as the Galaxy S6 Edge, unofficially.
According to Bloomberg, Samsung is looking to release a phone with the curved edge display adorning three sides, in contrast to the rumored single or double sided plans that we’ve been hearing about for a while now. It further suggests that the Korean giant is planning to release two models of the Galaxy S6: one with a 5.1-inch standard flat display, and one with a 5.1-inch display wrapping around the three sides. The Galaxy Note Edge is the first and only device in the market right now with a display that wraps around one side of the phone, and the S6 Edge-like variant is built on the same concept.
The report further suggests that both phones will be clad in an all-metal body, which is contradicting earlier rumors and information leaks suggesting that the phone will feature glass panels on the front and back surrounded by a metal ring around the sides. Unfortunately, there are no more details to go with for now, but with a three-sided curved edge display, Samsung looks to be making some pretty desperate moves in my opinion. A dual-sided wraparound display could be a handy feature no doubt, but what are the odds of your thumb or index finger comfortably tapping away at the third side which is likely to be featured at the bottom, housing the navigation buttons.
The two phones are all set to be revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, so in case you were planning on buying an S5 or S4, you might want to wait and check out Samsung’s attempt at redeeming itself as a cutting edge brand.
