We can talk about the LG G Pro 2 and the Sony Xperia Z2 when making a case for the recent releases vying for supremacy in the high-end market, but if we’re being honest, there are only really two stand-out candidates that can top the pile in 2014; at least, in terms of Android smartphones. Samsung’s Galaxy S5, announced at the Mobile World Congress, will be pushed to the limits by the HTC One M8 this year, and with the HTC One M7 having been the closest to competing with the Galaxy S4, early reactions to both devices suggest that the Taiwanese vendor may have well and truly struck gold this time around.
YouTuber Danny Winget has just posted a full comparison / hands-on clip of the HTC One M8 up against the Samsung Galaxy S5, and with many consumers out there deciding which top-spec Android device to go out and purchase, this is perhaps the most thorough pound-for-pound showdown we’ve seen yet.
The showcasing of each device has prompted the usual spate of camera tests, torture tests and hands-on reviews, but this near 15-minute comparison pits these two giants up against one another as a precursor to the impending sales battle.
Starting off by checking out the form factor of each, the well-edited video takes a close-up look at that unmistakable aluminum unibody of the HTC One M8 versus the Galaxy S5’s mostly plastic finish. Both handsets borrow much of their design traits from their respective elders, which is to be expected, and as to which you may prefer, it’s really down to personal taste.
Winget proceeds to run through the key features, including display, cameras, and software features. Even though both are based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, HTC and Samsung have, as ever, included a bunch of their own apps. With that said, for the most part, you’ll find that both have a similarly rich selection.
If nothing else, Winget’s clip offers some beautiful perspectives of each device, and even though the HTC One (M8) is perhaps the better-looking of the two, this very fair, almost cinematic comparison gives an unadulterated, impartial review that may just help you make up your own mind with regards to which deserves a decidedly large chunk of your hard-earned wad.
