Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is one of the biggest smartphone releases of the year. It’s one of those devices which millions of Android users have been eagerly waiting for, and it well and truly builds upon the success of last year’s major release, the Galaxy S4. But is the Galaxy S5 the device you should buy this year? Is it a worthy upgrade over its predecessor, the Galaxy S4? Lets find out in our head-to-head specs comparison!
Before we dive right into the specs shootout, it’s worth noting that despite being Samsung’s flagship for this year, the Galaxy S5 is somewhat of a modest upgrade. I wouldn’t really call it something big, or something which you should just slip your credit card out for and buy. Yes, it’s true that it’s one of the most advanced Android-powered handsets out there today, but do we really need all that muscle power for day to day tasks?
From the specs table which we’ve put together for our readers, you’ll get a good idea where both Galaxy devices shine. It’s not necessary that more GHz or megapixels mean a better smartphone; it’s all up to the user to decide what they’re actually looking for, and are those extra bucks being spent worth the upgrade if you’re going for a far better, superior device? For some, who really don’t care about extra quirks, buying a Galaxy S4 might prove to be a better option. After all, you’ll end up saving plenty of bucks!
As you can see from the specs table above, and like how we pointed out before, the Galaxy S5 is really a modest upgrade over last year’s release, and also when you compare it with other Android smartphones that are currently lurking in the market. With the HTC One also due for an upgrade on March 25th, it’s best to wait and see what HTC has in store next month. Galaxy S5 won’t be available for purchase until April 11th anyway, hence, you – the buyer – has some time to decide which Android smartphone to get this year.
Our finally advice? If you already own a Galaxy S4 and want to upgrade, it’s better to wait for the successor of the HTC One to be announced.
