If you’re planning to grab Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone then you’ll probably be aware of Dr. Raymond M. Soneira’s findings in the latest DisplayMate report. As part of a research experiment into the quality, performance and overall satisfaction of various displays on the market’s top-tier handsets, Dr. Soneira has found that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has the best performing screen. In what will be music to Samsung’s ears he even goes as far as saying that the S5’s display is the best that he has ever tested. Great news indeed for the Korean company who undoubtedly put a lot of work into making the display as performant as possible.
As part of the progression from the Galaxy S4 to the Galaxy S5 Samsung made a very conscious decision to not rewrite the manual when it came to the device’s display. The Galaxy S5 was notable in the fact that it didn’t contain any significant increase in physical display size or resolution. Instead, Samsung chose to put all of its collective efforts into fine tuning its already impressive AMOLED technology, with the end goal being to improve upon important aspects such as viewing angles, display brightness, power efficiency and color accuracy. The DisplayMate report seems to suggest that this effort was worthwhile.
The report also notes that OLED displays are still relatively new within the smartphone world, with most manufacturers still opting for LCD technology in their wares. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 have both been praised in the report for their impressive OLED display integration. However, it is also noted that the Galaxy S5 represents the next step in OLED progression by performing significantly better than those two devices and recording higher marks in almost “every single test and measurement category” that the devices were subjected to.
Based on DisplayMate’s extensive lab tests and measurements it’s also been recorded that the Galaxy S5 “is the best performing smartphone display that we have ever tested“. The tests showed that the Galaxy S5 offers a highly impressive 27 percent improvement in power efficiency over its predecessor while also managing to have the “most accurate colors for any smartphone or tablet display” that has been tested by Dr. Soneira and his team.
Samsung fans have been waxing lyrical about the Note 3’s OLED display ever since it’s launch on October 2013. Maybe now is the time to get a hands on with the Galaxy S5 and witness mobile OLED tech at its finest.
