Unless your Internet access has been cut off over the last few days, you are likely aware that Samsung showed off its new smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at a high-profile event in New York City. Right across the pond, in the United Kingdom, major retailer Phones4U has revealed that pre-orders of the new Galaxy S4 smartphone have vastly exceeded pre-registrations for previous models, an early sign that Samsung has managed to “woo” customers with its new device, at least in Britain.
Within hours of Samsung’s announcement this past Thursday, Phones4U began allowing customers to pre-order the handset in order to receive it just after it becomes available in late April of this year. Just days after opening up for registrations, the retailer has received more orders than the previous model, according to Phones4U Chief Commercial Officer Scott Hooton:
“The anticipation surrounding the next Samsung Galaxy device has been astounding and it has already received the most pre-registrations at Phones 4u of any other smartphone launch in 2013, as well as a 40% increase on pre-registrations for the Galaxy SIII in the first 48 hours.”
According to a survey conducted in the United Kingdom, 46% of smartphone owners are considering getting a Samsung smartphone in the next year. This is not only a great achievement for Samsung but for Android as well, which is now no longer seen as a niche operating system for power users, instead a solid, reliable and widely used consumer operating system.
The success of the Galaxy S4 was in part fuelled by the many consumer-friendly new features that have been added; indeed, in addition to the much improved internal hardware, the Galaxy S4 is a consumer-focused released aimed at making the user experience as friendly as possible. The new phone includes six sensors, including for temperature and humidity, allowing developers to create apps that will be a lot more responsive to external factors. Speaking of apps, many new ones have been added, such as S Translate, which allows for instant translation of text and spoken words.
If you are based in the United Kingdom, you can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S4 online now. Soon enough, you will be enjoying all the bells and whistles of Samsung’s newest smartphone.
