Samsung’s Galaxy Note range had its fair share of critics from the get-go, with skeptics baffled as to why or how anybody would use devices of such monstrosities. Fast-forward a few years, though, and the word ‘phablet’ is thrown about constantly, with several of Samsung’s rivals having followed the Korean companies lead in delivering smartphone-plus-tablet handsets. With the flagship Galaxy S5 almost upon us, the Galaxy Note 4 is the next big release as far as Samsung is concerned, and although we’ve heard precious little so far in its regard, a few details are now beginning to emerge.
Even though the Galaxy S product line is considered Samsung’s most appealing, the Note range has gained a fair amount of traction since the release of the original model, and such has been the increase in appeal for the larger-screened device, that a shift in power could see the Note play the dominant role in years to come.
Perhaps the main reason why the Galaxy Note 4 hasn’t been in the news up until now is because it’s fairly easy to gauge what a Galaxy Note will include by just looking at the Galaxy S released just before it. Hence, as we begin to learn of what Samsung plans to include with the Note 4, the S5 should provide more than just a mere outline of some of the key features.
For instance, the design of the device will probably either continue with the faux-leather rear cover as seen with the Galaxy Note 3 and several of the company’s tablets, but there’s also a pretty good chance that the dotted finish of the Galaxy S5. It’s also not unreasonable to suppose that the overall form factor will follow the design language of the soon-to-be-released S5, with the main exception being the increase in display real estate.
According to the folks of CMNO, the Galaxy Note 4 will pack an impressive 2K display, and with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, it would greatly trump the 1920 x 1080 panel of the S5. The report also goes on to toy with the idea of a 4K display, but 2K seems a much more plausible starting point, and also, 4K on a ~6-inch display seems like overkill.
Considering the Galaxy S5 once again, it’s almost certain that the Galaxy Note 4 will be waterproof, and although we could speculate endlessly with regards to the processor, you can bet that Samsung will chuck in a powerful, up-to-date SoC of at least four cores.
Just when it will arrive is debatable, but if history is anything to go by, then September’s IFA in Berlin seems a pretty solid release bracket.
