Samsung today took the wraps off the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra and everything is exactly as we expected, all thanks to the various and prolific leaks we’ve seen in recent days.
The three new phones pack 6.2-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.8-inch displays respectively with the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ seeing their resolution dropped to 1080p. The high-end Galaxy S21 Ultra retains a 1440p resolution, while all devices will offer adaptive 120Hz refresh rates.
That Galaxy S21 Ultra is also the only device to get any camera improvements. The standard models both pack a 12-megapixel primary camera, a 64-megapixel telephoto, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel front-facing shooter. Thinks are kicked up a notch at the high end, however.
For the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung elected for a 108-megapixel primary camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto at 3x and another at 10x, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 40-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Support for the S Pen has been added, although there’s nowhere to put it unless you buy a case that has a slot in it. It’s all something of an afterthought and we’d still suggest going with the Galaxy Note lineup if you’re all about that stylus.
Gone this time around is the microSD card slot, so you’re going to have to make sure you buy a phone with the amount of storage you expect to need. In terms of the Galaxy S21 and S21+ the two options are 128GB and 256GB, while the Ultra adds 512GB as an option. It also has 12GB of RAM, up from the 8GB of the other two models. 16GB is also available depending on the storage configuration you opt for.
Finally, pricing. You’ll pay less than last year, although none of these devices are cheap. That means the Galaxy S21 starts at $799, while the Galaxy S21+ starts at $999. The big daddy Galaxy S21 Ultra starts at $1,099 for its base configuration, too. Multiple colors are offered including Phantom Violet, Phantom Gray, Phantom Pink, and Phantom White for the Galaxy S21 and Phantom Violet, Phantom Black, and Phantom Silver for the Galaxy S21+. Phantom Silver and Phantom Black are the only two colors available to Galaxy S21 Ultra buyers right now, although more are coming.
