Behind Mail, Mobile Safari is probably one of the most used apps on the iPhone. It’s one of the joys of the iOS universe – a lightweight mobile browser that actually behaves like a proper, fully-fledged (bar Flash, obviously) desktop browser. Everyone loves it, and it works well. But it’s missing one thing.
If you’re a Chrome user, or pretty much any browser other than Safari for that matter, then the chances are you’re very, very used to the OmniBar. Bringing the address and search bars together, the OmniBar reduces clutter on the screen, which on a mobile device, is a Godsend, believe us, it really is!
With that in mind, it’s particularly pleasing to show you a jailbreak tweak that brings the OmniBar to the iPhone’s Mobile Safari app. The tweak, available to download and install for free from Cydia, goes by the rather obvious name of Safari UniBar.
Once installed, the search bar is removed from Mobile Safari, and the address bar takes over its duties. Enter a couple of words into the UniBar and hit go, and the app threads the query into Google and away it goes. You’re treated to a page of search results quicker than you can say ‘3rd party browser.’
Safari UniBar requires no addition setup, and the tweak will add no new icons to your iPhone’s homescreen, making for a nice, clean and unobtrusive jailbreak tweak.
We love UniBar here at Redmond Pie, and we’re sure you will too. What’s not to like? You get more on-screen space, less clutter, and no lost functionality. It’s a win-win! And it’s a tweak guaranteed to make your life easier.
