Safari Is About To Lose 2nd Spot As World’s Most-Used Browser

Apple’s Safari web browser is nowhere near being the world’s most popular browser thanks to the sheer domination of Google Chrome, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t sitting pretty in second spot. Or at least, that’s where it is for now — but probably not for very long.

According to numbers shared by StatCounter, Safari is the second most-used desktop browser in the world as of last month, but the rest of the market is getting close to taking over.

Safari makes up 9.84% of the world’s desktop browsing use, but Microsoft’s Edge is right behind with 9.54%. Opera’s Firefox is in third with 9.18%.

Safari’s percentage shows a fall in usage from 10.38% the year before, with the competition beginning to catch up. It’s surely only a matter of time before Safari finds itself in third place and, who knows, maybe even fourth!

However, should this be that much of a surprise? You have to remember that there is no Windows version of Safari these days, whereas Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all have versions that can run on Windows and macOS. In reality, it’s perhaps surprising that Safari was ever in second spot in the first place.

Apple’s Safari is the default web browser on macOS, of course, although clearly plenty of people only use it to download their browser of choice and then never open it again.
