Safari Could Soon Let Us Set Dark Mode On A Per-Website Basis

A future iOS and iPadOS update could allow people to set specific websites to appear in dark or light mode depending on personal preference, according to a new report.

While Safari already supports dark mode, enabling it for the app itself also enables it for each and every website that is visited.

According to a 9to5Mac report, code found in the latest iOS 15.4 beta update suggests that could change soon — with Apple allowing people to select the dark and light mode for each website rather than as a whole.

As found by 9to5Mac in the WebKit code, Apple is implementing a new option that allows “overriding the system color-scheme with a per-website preference.” For example, you can choose to always view a specific website in Dark Mode, even if your phone has Light Mode enabled.

There is currently no confirmation of when this feature will be made available, if ever. It isn’t live in iOS 15.4’s betas although that could change. Apple is expected to launch iOS 15.4 this spring, although the Safari dark mode change could come at a later date.

Apple will also share details of iOS 16 within months — likely during the WWDC event that is expected to take place in June if previous years are any indication.
