There have long been rumors that Apple is working on a new type of device, dubbed HomeAccessory currently, that will combine an Apple TV-like experience with that of a HomePod.
Now, a new report claims that the device will have an A18 chip for Apple Intelligence support and more.
According to 9to5Mac, citing reliable sources familiar with the matter, the HomeAccessory that has been spotted in previous code snippets is indeed a new smart home device. It’s currently codenamed J490 and will be powered by an A18 chip. That in turn means that there will be support for Apple intelligence, a feature that is not available to any HomePods.
Then, the report details plans for a square, almost iPad-like display. There is also talk of a built-in camera so that the device can be used for video calls via FaceTime and other apps.
Interestingly, sources told us that the HomeAccessory in its current state has a squarish display, rather than a rectangular format like an iPad. It’s unclear whether the square aspect ratio will make it into the final product. HomeAccessory also has a built-in camera that works for FaceTime and other video conferencing apps.
It’s believed that the device will run apps and play media, while there will also be support for Apple’s AirPlay wireless streaming protocol. That will allow people to stream music and video to the HomeAccessory using an iPhone, iPad, and other devices.
