Newly leaked information coming from a “pretty reliable” source is suggesting that Apple’s iPhone 7 will come with a battery upgrade that will see capacity bumped up by 14-percent over the existing iPhone 6s.
Serial information leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer has taken to Twitter once more to suggest that the upcoming iPhone 7 – which is slated for a public release this coming September – will pack a 1,960 mAh battery compared to the 1,715 mAh cell found in Apple’s current flagship, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s.
Anyone who takes a keen interest in the smartphone world will more than likely already know that Hemmerstoffer has historically been extremely accurate when making claims about upcoming hardware. This time around, the serial leaker is citing a “pretty reliable” source who he describes as “not 100%” accurate “but almost”, as the provider of the iPhone 7 battery information.
If true, that would mean that the iPhone 7 would theoretically offer a longer uptime over the current model iPhones, but this will of course be subjective to a lot of other iPhone 7 components and iOS 10.
As devices like the iPhone get smaller, thinner and ultimately more compact, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to improve the battery life due to limited space internally to fit a larger cell with higher power-storing capacity. Given the fact that the iPhone 7 is expected to retain a largely similar design and size as the iPhone 6s, it seems clear that Apple has found a way to move internal components around with the aim of slotting in a slightly larger battery.

There’s no further information been shared at the moment on the type or capacity of battery that will make its way into the larger iPhone 7 Plus model when it hits the market later this year. With that said, if Apple is planning on introducing a larger capacity into the iPhone 7, it’s logical to assume that the iPhone 7 Plus will benefit from the same type of integration. If that turns out to be the case, then we could see the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus offering a battery experience in line with the 2,915 mAh cell that shipped with the iPhone 6 Plus.
It’s likely that more information about the iPhone 7 range, as well as internal components, will become apparent as we get closer to an official reveal.
