Rumor: Apple To Hold Event This Month For Apple Watch, 12-inch MacBook Air

Last year’s cycle of Apple keynotes followed a fairly recognized pattern, with the Worldwide Developers’ Conference in June swiftly followed up by the iPhone (and Apple Watch) event in September and the iPad refreshes shortly thereafter. But with a new smartwatch on the horizon, one which, as Tim Cook mentioned last week, is on track for April release, we know that there’ll be at least one major event before this summer’s developer gathering, and according to a new report, the Cupertino is planning to hold a major announcement at the end of this month.

Sources of French blog iGen claim that said event could take place on Tuesday 24th February, and with a fairly decent track record, there’s no reason to disbelieve the story. Given that the keynote will probably play host to the formal introduction of Apple Watch, though, it does seem a bit soon, particularly as iOS 8.2 – a major software update that includes everything necessary to integrate the wearable with iPhone – was scheduled for a March roll-out the last we heard.

Whether Apple Watch will even be a part of proceedings at this not-yet-confirmed gathering is a matter of pure speculation, but aside from the wrist computer, Apple has another rather exciting project long overdue for release. As such, we may finally see the redesigned 12-inch MacBook Air in an official capacity following the recent spate of leaked information.

As per the leaks, there’ll be much more to it than just a 12-inch display, though, with Apple having seemingly pulled out the stops to boost general performance whilst still downsizing in terms of form factor. The fact that the 12-inch MacBook Air may do away with most of its (remaining) ports will no doubt ruffle the feathers of some users, but a bit like the backlash following the removal of the optical drive from the MacBook Pro in 2012, the wider array of improvements should still be enough to win those early skeptics over.

We’ll be keeping tabs on this rumor to see if it carries any weight, so stay tuned for further developments!
