Rumor: Apple To Announce Google Gemini Support Coming To Apple Intelligence This Fall

Apple is set to launch iOS 18 with support for Apple Intelligence later this year and the company has confirmed that the system will use ChatGPT for those times when its own AI cannot provide an answer.

Apple did confirm that support for other chatbots was on the way, and now it would appear that Apple could be about to add support for Google Gemini this fall.

Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that a deal with Google Or Anthropic could bring new competition for ChatGPT on the iPhone this fall. However, anyone who had been hoping for support for Meta’s own alternative will be left disappointed.

Those early conversations didn’t evolve into formal discussions, and there’s been no communication on the topic for several months. Apple is also giving no consideration to eventually adding Meta as an option, particularly because it believes OpenAI, Google and Anthropic offer superior services, I’m told. Such a move also would run counter to Apple’s criticism of Meta for its privacy practices. As for an Apple deal with Google or Anthropic, I expect at least the former to be announced around the time Apple Intelligence launches this fall.

While Apple Intelligence will be the main AI offering for iPhone users with iOS 18 installed, the use of ChatGPT for some aspects will ensure a more rounded experience across a wider range of requests.

Apple is set to launch iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence this launch although the latter will be in beta form, Apple has confirmed. It will also only be available to people outside the EU and who use the US English language.
