Apple is working on a new 15-inch version of the MacBook Air that could be ready for sale in 2023, according to a new report. That same report also claims that a new 12-inch MacBook is something that Apple is working on with a potential aim to release it in 2024.
Writing for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman believes that the 15-inch MacBook Air will be a wider version of the new 13-inch version, something that backs up a previous claim by display analyst Ross Young.
That machine has been rumored recently, with Apple thought to have also considered a 15-inch version in previous years before deciding against it.
Perhaps more notable is Gurman’s belief that Apple is also working on a new 12-inch MacBook of some sort, three years after it discontinued the last one. The device is potentially set for a 2024 launch, although there is said to be a chance that it could make 2023. The machine would be powered by Apple silicon and would likely be fanless, just like the aforementioned 12-inch MacBook. That machine’s use of an Intel chip caused slow performance, however. That isn’t something the new version would need to worry about.
Apple has also begun work on a new 12-inch laptop and is considering launching it at the end of 2023 or in early 2024. If Apple moves forward with the release, it would represent the company’s smallest laptop since it discontinued the 12-inch MacBook in 2019.
Gurman also notes that it isn’t yet clear whether the 12-inch machine would carry the MacBook Pro moniker, although that seems unlikely given its size.
