A few months ago Tesla stopped shipping the Cybertruck with its aerodynamic wheel covers over concerns related to unusual tire wear experienced by those who had them.
The company said that a reworked wheel cover was being planned, and it’s finally starting to ship.
Tesla eventually started selling the Cybertruck with no wheel covers whatsoever, leaving the bear wheel wide open. However, a new report says that Tesla is starting to install the redesigned wheel covers on Cybertrucks that shipped without them which means we’re finally seeing what these new covers look like.
The original wheel covers were a seven-spoke affair that matched with the custom tires that ship with the truck itself.
The covers were designed to reduce drag when driving to increase range, but there were immediate issues. Some people saw their Cybertruck tires wear unexpectedly as a result of the covers while some covers simply fell off. Now, Tesla has a new design that looks almost identical to the previous one. There are some changes though.
Those changes include less of a bulge in the center as well as shorter spokes which are presumably designed in an attempt to reduce that uneven tire wear. As for getting your new wheel covers, it appears that Tesla is reaching out to Cybertruck owners to get them installed when they become available.
