Report Claims New MacBook Pro Will Be Powered By M1X Chip With Front Logo Being Removed

A new report claims that an upcoming MacBook Pro refresh will bring with it a new processor in the form of an Apple-designed M1X chip. Current Apple silicon-powered Macs come with an M1 chip inside.

The report, which comes via 9to5Mac and citing “a source with a decent track record,” also suggests that we can expect an SD card reader and some form of MagSafe charging.

The M1X is an extension of the M1 that will contain more thunderbolt channels, cpu cores, gpu cores, multiple external monitor support, and greater power draw. These devices will both feature a 1080p webcam, SD card reader, three thunderbolt usb c ports, an updated MagSafe port, and an HDMI port.

This comes days after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman made similar claims, saying that future MacBook Pro notebooks will come with chips that have up to 10 cores and 32-core GPUs. Gurman didn’t say what this chip would be called, however.

As for the M2 chip, it’s now reported that we won’t see that particular branding until a new notebook at some point next year. That notebook is also thought to be a MacBook Air, too.

The report also suggests that the front logo will be removed from the new redesigned MacBook Pros.

Focusing on the Macbook Pro 14 inch and 16 inch models, the design will be similar to the iPad Pro with flat edges. The bezels will be reduced and the bottom “Macbook Pro” logo will be removed.

There is currently no hard timescale on when any of this is going to happen, however.
