We’re counting down the hours to Apple’s big WWDC event on June 3rd and we’re hearing more and more information about what people expect that event to offer.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has been spilling the beans once more, and there’s a mention of augmented reality that has everyone talking.
Hidden amidst the many interesting tidbits about the many software updates that will be announced during the opening keynote for WWDC next week, we find mention of a new feature that is part of internal versions of iOS 13. According to Gurman, those internal builds have support for a future AR headset – a device that doesn’t yet exist.
Apple has been rumored to have designs on launching its own AR headset for months, and analysts have 2020 as a potential launch window for such a thing. Apple has already been making great waves in the world of AR thanks to its iPhones and iPads and a proper headset makes plenty of sense. Gurman claims that people inside Apple are already testing iOS 13 with AR headset-specific support, which may suggest things are bubbling along nicely.
We’re still not really sure where an AR headset fits into Apple’s brand, nor how it will tie in with iPhones and iPads, if at all. Apple definitely has a bee in its bonnet about AR, and a headset is the logical conclusion of that.
We’ll have to see if there’s any mention of this specific AR headset support in the version of iOS 13 that is released to developers next week.
