Report: A Smaller Nintendo Switch Is Likely To Arrive This Fall

We’ve been expecting Nintendo to announce some sort of variant of the Switch for some time, and now Japan’s Nikkei newspaper has reported that we will indeed see one at some point this fall.

The new version will be a cheaper version of the existing model while also being smaller. In fact, mobile play will be the focus entirely despite there still being the potential to connect it to a TV.

Hopes for a new, more powerful version of the Switch, are still high, but that’s going to take a little bit longer according to the report. However, The Wall Street Journal has previously claimed that an enhanced version of the Switch will arrive this year, so it’s unclear whether the two parties are talking about the same piece of kit, or not.

The Nintendo Switch has proven hugely popular and has almost ridded the company of the specter of the Wii-U. Expectation is that the company will want to strike while the iron is still at least luke-warm, launching an updated Switch to capitalize.

Alongside the Switch news, Nikkei also mentions that the odd “Quality of Life” development has been halted, a full five years after it was first announced. It was originally a sleep tracking project that involved then President, Satoru Iwata. He unfortunately died in 2015, and it sees that Nintendo wasn’t sure how to progress with the project afterwards.

A source speaking with the publication said that the project was ultimately canned because Nintendo wasn’t sure how it would make a “Nintendo-like product.”
