By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Apple media event set for October 23rd, invites for which were sent out four days ago. Although there is nothing in the invite image that suggests this (like it did with new iPad and iPhone 5), it is widely expected to be the event where Apple announces their entry to the small and economical tablet market that is currently dominated by the likes of Amazon’s Kindle Fire (HD) and Google’s Nexus 7.
Besides the “iPad Mini”, we’ve come across reports of Apple introducing a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Earlier today, we came across photos of the purported computer, which you can check out after the jump.
The images come from Chinese forum Weiphone where a member uploaded three photos which are claimed to be of the upcoming 13” MacBook Pro with Retina Display. You can see them below.
Now, the first question that must’ve popped in your head is how can an image showing only connectivity ports claim to be from the 13-inch MacBook Pro? They could be from the 15-inch MacBook Pro, for all you know, right?
Well, no.
I had the same question in mind when I first saw these photos. After a little research, however, I found the answer: these are photos of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro because a. there is no speaker grille between the keyboard and the left / right edge like it is on the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and, further b. it comes with two Thunderbolt ports and a MagSafe 2 connector, both of which aren’t on the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.
The new MacBook Pro is expected to come with specs similar to its class-beating elder 15-inch (display) brother: a quad core Intel processor, dedicated graphics from NVIDIA, 8GB of RAM, large amount of flash-based storage and, of course, a 2560 x 1600 “Retina display” – four times the number of pixels on current 13-inch models and the same as a 27-inch iMac. It will likely be priced north of $1499.
We don’t have any other details on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display at the moment; expect more news as we close in on the event on October 23rd!
