Apple is set to announce its new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max during an event on Wednesday, September 7, and expectations were already high that the cameras on the two models would be larger than those of last year’s.
But now, new images appear to show just how massive those camera lenses are going to be.
Images shared to Korean website Naver by user yeux1122, show a claimed iPhone 14 Pro case paced on an iPhone 13 Pro, and the differences in cameras is marked. The new iPhone’s lenses are notably larger, as is the overall camera area that the lenses are housed in.
Apple is expected to give the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max a new 48-megapixel main camera while there is also talk of an upgraded ultrawide camera, too. That would explain the larger lenses, with Apple expected to add 8K video recording to the mix as well as improved low-light photography capabilities.
The camera improvements have already been outlined by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, with the different sizes put into perspective.
The main reason for the larger and more prominent rear-camera bump of the 14 Pro/Pro Max is upgrading the wide camera to 48MP (vs. 13 Pro/Pro Max’s 12MP). The diagonal length of 48MP CIS will increase by 25-35%, and the height of 48MP’s 7P lens will increase by 5-10%.
Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones during its September 7 event, with three new Apple Watches also thought to be in the cards. Talk of a new AirPods Pro refresh continues to swirl, too.
