Up and coming Apple leaker, Jon Prosser, has today shared a video where he has outed pretty much everything relating to Apple’s AR glasses. And it makes for an interesting watch.
Apple has been rumored to be working on some form of AR glasses for years and this deluge of information is the best we’ve seen yet. And that starts with the name – Apple Glass.
According to Prosser we can expect Apple Glass to debut as soon as this year’s iPhone event, although the first quarter of 2021 is more likely. We shouldn’t expect the glasses to be available until around a year later, however.
When they do ship, Prosser says pricing is set at $499 although anyone who needs prescription lenses will then need to pay extra.
Prosser also details a frame that has a LiDAR Scanner built into one side while both lenses will have screens that can be used. Gestures will be used as an interaction model, likely thanks to that LiDAR Scanner.
Interestingly, Apple intends for Apple Glass to be its “One More Thing” at this year’s iPhone event, but given the fact that media is unlikely to be present, a delay is likely. Apple believes the new product category deserves a big media event, and that just isn’t going to happen right now.
Prosser has a relatively good record with these kinds of things of late, leaking information on the iPhone SE and 13-inch MacBook Pro ahead of their release. We’ll have to wait a few months before we know whether he was on the money this time around, or not.
