As any video editing enthusiast will know, Final Cut Pro X is regarded among the authority in motion picture manipulation. The app, which, is Mac-only, offers an extremely powerful toolset, but in terms of mobile options for those looking to take their work on the move, the number – and quality – of apps favors those requiring a less involved experience. ProCutX For iPad breaks the mold, offering a very rich set of tools, and although it naturally doesn’t offer quite as many tools as FCPX, it links in nicely with the revered desktop app.
More and more consumers are seeing the value of owning a tablet, and with the current iPad now boasting an A6X processor, it’s not surprising to see apps of this caliber making their way to the Apple slab.
ProCutX is a great app for those Mac vid enthusiasts to take their work around with them, including features such as color grading and auto-correct, compound clip editing, import / export / rendering shortcuts, timeline scrubbing, as well as facilitating the recording of voiceovers.
At $25, it is not meant as a replacement for Final Cut Pro X, but will serve as a noble understudy for when you are out and about. Although the price tag is expensive for a mobile app, it’s perhaps reflective of the quality of it, and seeing as a copy of Final Cut Pro X will set you back some $299, I don’t think many will have a quibble about the cost.
So, if you’re a video editing aficionado, and have been in the market for an app to allow you to work on your iPad, you may want to give ProCutX a go. Whether you’re a professional, or just starting out, this app offers a friendly, inviting interface, and with so many features rammed into this initial version, things can only get better with future updates.
Please note, this app is iPad-only, and requires iOS 5.1 or above in order to be installed on your device.
