Apple’s CarPlay feature is a great one for people who want to have their apps work on their car’s big screen, but Porsche has now updated its own app to go a step further by putting its in-car features right inside CarPlay.
The new My Porsche app runs inside CarPlay after users install a recent update. Once running the app brings various car features to CarPlay including climate control, ambient lighting, and more.
The updated My Porsche App combines vehicle functions with the CarPlay® experience, including the ability to show images of the specific model within CarPlay. Core functions that can be conveniently adjusted even via the My Porsche App include audio settings such as sound profiles, changing radio stations, adjusting settings for climate control and ambient lighting. In addition, these functions can be combined into wellness modes, such as “relax”, “warm up” and “refresh”, using quick actions in CarPlay.
This bringing of car controls under the CarPlay feature set is something that Apple announced as part of iOS 16 in 2022, but it’s yet to come to fruition.
This Porsche app update is different in that it doesn’t bring CarPlay to the car’s dashboard or directly tie into its functions, but it does at least approximate them.
Unfortunately, this will only work on the very newest Porsche Cayenne vehicles. Porsche does say that it intends to roll the feature out to older cars in the future, however.
