Pokemon Go Gen 2 References Found In APK Teardown, Here Are The Details

Pokemon Go Gen 2 references have been found by enthusiasts in game’s code following APK teardown. As for when the Gen 2 Pokemon might be available, here are the details.

Gamers may have cooled on Pokémon Go and the worldwide phenomenon that saw the game at the center of news stories surrounding both the good and bad aspects of gaming. Whilst interest may have begun to wane, Niantic and the teams behind Pokémon Go continue to work on the game, adding features and fixing bugs in order to lengthen the title’s time on people’s smartphone Home screens. Generally, they have done a pretty good job of exactly that, and if a new rumor is accurate, the next generation Pokémon may be on the way.

Having dug around in the Android app’s code, the folks at The Silph Road have highlighted that “100 new Pokémon are now referenced in the game’s code.” That’s a lot of new Pokémon if you ask us, that’s for sure.

It may not be time to dust the Pokémon Go game down and dive right back in, however, with The Silph Road seeking to clarify exactly what it has found and what that means for fans of the game. Here’s what they have to say about it.

Presently, no moveset data has been assigned to the new species. Furthermore, the moves themselves haven’t even appeared in the code yet. This means a server and client-side change will have to occur before Gen 2 is launched. So nothing to hold your breath for, travelers. It may yet be a few more weeks or months. But Niantic has certainly been picking up momentum. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess when these major additions might find their way into the Pokemon GO universe.

Given that they believes that both a client and server-side update may be required in order to bring some of the new Pokémon to the game, the update could be anywhere from a few weeks to months away from release to general public.

That said, with Niantic barely stopping long enough to draw breath, it’s clear that the hype surrounding Pokémon Go may have died down a little, but the game is far from dead.
