Regular jailbreakers all have their individual reasons why they wait patiently for the development teams to develop the required software to liberate devices. Some love the freedom and the ability to say they have defied the might of Apple, while others do it just for their one favorite tweak that they can’t live without. On a personal level, I fall into a few of the individual categories and religiously jailbreak my devices not only for some must have tweaks which make using an iDevice a more pleasurable experience, but also because I truly believe that after paying many hundreds of dollars for hardware I should have the liberty to do what I want with it within the confines of the law.
The best modifications from the Cydia store are undoubtedly the ones which are thought through properly, exist to solve a problem or enhance a users experience and are given a professional level of polish before being distributed. Unfortunately, some developers seem to think that because their work is available through Cydia that it means it can be thrown out in any state which is truly a shame. A tweak which is relatively unknown in Cydia goes by the name of ‘Plugication’ and actually relies on a little bit of hardware detection goodness to operate.
The name of the tweak doesn’t really sit right with me in all honesty, but the functionality is pretty neat. Plugication seems to address a problem which Apple haven’t thought to rectify yet, or have simply chosen to ignore for one reason or another. We all know that as soon as we remove our headphones from the 3.5mm jack on the iDevice, music stops playing immediately, which is actually a pretty nice native feature of iOS considering that the user could be in a public place or listening privately to something sensitive, or just have a terrible music taste.
Plugication works to reverse that process, by recognizing when the headphones have been plugged back in and then automatically resuming music playback through the chosen music application. Yes, that’s right, it is a tweak which has compatibility with multiple music applications such as the very popular Spotify app amongst others. The tweak is extremely simple, also featuring a nice little settings entry which allows Plugication to be toggled on or off at the users discretion.
Plugication is available as a free of charge download on the ModMyi repository.
You will of course need to jailbreak your device to install this tweak. For jailbreaking iPhone 4S and iPad 2, you can simply follow our step by step tutorial posted here to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Absinthe on Windows or Mac. Those of you with an iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches can use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze to untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.
