Oh to be a fly on the wall at Sony HQ these days. After previously saying they hoped to bring their PlayStation Network back online this weekend, Sony has had to postpone the much-awaited return of the service due to a third wave of attacks aimed at the Japanese giant.
This new attack focused on an old PlayStation website that is no longer used. Data from 10 years ago has been leaked by the attackers, with personal details of around 2500 contest winners now in the bad guys’ hands.
In an attempt to find some kind of resolution to the debacle, Sony has reportedly offered a reward for information on the perpetrators according to AllThingsD and people ‘familiar with the matter’. Quite who these people are we’re not entirely sure, and can’t help but wonder if they have that title on their name badges!
The reward may or may not be implemented, the report said, as Sony executives are weighing the pros and cons of such a move, which would be made in coordination with law enforcement.
So, it appears if you were waiting for PSN to come online this weekend, you’re going to be waiting a little longer.
