Philips Hue has gotten into the CES spirit by making a series of announcements including updates to an existing product and some new outdoor ones, too.
The existing product that got some love was the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. The little box connects to a TV and all of your devices route through it. That allows it to then provide colored lighting based on the TV content signal it’s receiving. It works well, but there’s no support for any voice control. Luckily, that’s changing now.
Following a software update, the box will officially support Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. All existing users need to do is wait for the update to arrive and they’ll be able to control their light via their voice. Support for infrared remote controls is also incoming, too.
Also announced were new outdoor lights, starting with the Appear which is a wall-mounted solution that fires upwards and downwards in a sort of triangle of light.
There are also new low-voltage options with the Lily XL and Echonic lineup. They’ll cost $139.99 and $129.99 respectively, with sales set to begin in March.
“With our latest additions to the Philips Hue outdoor collection, we are offering consumers endless possibilities to create unique and personalized light effects that enhance their home’s curb appeal and set the right mood for every occasion,” said Jasper Vervoort, business leader, home systems & luminaires, Philips Hue at Signify. “This way, they can enjoy their moments at home to the fullest, while having an inviting and safe environment for themselves, the members of their household, and others.”
The company says that the new lights will offer 16 million colors and 50,000 different shades of warm-to-cool light.
