Philips Hue Ambiance Lights Gain Support For HomeKit Adaptive Lighting

Philips Hue is one of the first to take advantage of the new HomeKid Adaptive Lighting feature following a new software update. The update, having been in beta testing for around a month, is now available to everyone running Ambiance lights.

Adaptive Lighting was added to iOS 14 and it allows HomeKit to decide what color temperature smart lights should display during the day.

That should mean that warm colors will be used when the system believes it best and then cooler colors at other times. It should also reduce the amount of blue light we’re subjected to during the evenings.

Anyone running the correct bulbs can open the Hue app and tap Settings before tapping Software Update. You’re looking for firmware version 1941132070 – if you don’t see it, try tapping Update to install it.

Once the update has been applied the Home app should notify you that your bulbs support Adaptive Lighting, with configuration handled from thereon.

It isn’t yet clear which other bulbs will get this feature eventually, but it will likely become table stakes for any bulbs and lamps that support HomeKit eventually. But this being HomeKit, none of it is likely to happen too quickly.
