It might have taken way longer than it probably should have but PayPal debit and credit cards now finally support Apple Pay for the first time.
The change means that those who use PayPal credit or debit cards can finally add those cards to the Wallet app on their iPhones and then use them to make payments either online or via contactless terminals in physical stores.
Apple Pay support is table stakes for a lot of banks and countries these days and it’s good to see that PayPal has finally come online.
PayPal users should now be able to open the app on their iPhone and use a new banner that explains that people can now pay with their iPhone. Tapping that banner should give the option to add the PayPal debit or credit card to the Wallet app.
9to5Mac notes that Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, still doesn’t have support for Apple Pay but it now seems likely to only be a matter of time now that its parent company has added support.
While Apple Pay has been around for years, some countries still can’t make use of it. New countries and banks are coming online all the time however, so it’s clearly something that continues to expand as time rolls on.
