The Pangu8 jailbreak for iOS 8 / 8.1 came as a big surprise for the jailbreak community, but with a lot of complexities as well. One of those complexities was missing Cydia after jailbreaking our devices. Even though Saurik updated Cydia to work with iOS 8 / 8.1, the installation method was completely manual, and still remains so at least as of this writing.
Today, the Pangu Team – the creators of Pangu8 jailbreak for iPhone and iPad – have stated in a tweet that they’re closely working with Saurik, the creator of Cydia, to not only make the jailbreak store more stable, but also fixing bugs that were introduced as part of the jailbreak especially in Safari and iMessage.
The tweet comes as a ray of hope for jailbreak users world over who’re patiently waiting for the Pangu Team to release fixes and updates to their Pangu8 tool, making Cydia installation automatic once again.
The jailbreak scene as a whole has changed a lot in recent times. Ever since the Pangu team – a group of Chinese hackers that came up with a jailbreak solution for iOS 7.1 using stolen code – decided to join the foray, existing hackers have seem to lost interest. And the interesting part is, despite privacy concerns and the shady outlook that any piece of software coming from China usually seems to entail, Pangu jailbreak has been quite successful among the masses, and that too by a huge margin.
Even with the Pangu8 jailbreak, the Chinese group developed where there didn’t seem to be any light at the end of the (metaphorical) tunnel, and quite frankly, dismissing a software just because it originated from a certain part of the world doesn’t seem fair to us anyway.
Does the future of iOS jailbreak lie with the Chinese now? Perhaps, and so far, they’ve delivered well. As soon as we have more news regarding the subject, we’ll definitely break it to you all.
