Apple today has released iOS 4 for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 2G to public as a free download via iTunes. This is the same build 8A293 which was released as GM candidate on June 7th. For those of you who don't know, iOS 4 was formerly known as iPhone OS 4 and was renamed to iOS at this years’ WWDC 10 where iOS 4 was first released to developers.
Microsoft has finally released the official iPhone app of the world’s largest instant-messaging network (Windows Live Messenger) right for your iPhone and iPod touch. It features all the standard Windows Live stuff like photo sharing, chat and social stream from Windows Live Home.
The long wait for iPhone 4 is almost over, well for most anyway. Apple has begun notifying customers that their iPhone 4 pre-orders have now started shipping. Apple has notified several readers about the status of their pre-orders through shipment notifications and FedEx tracking numbers of their iPhone 4. Surprisingly, some of those shipment notifications indicate a "Delivers By" date of June 23rd, a day before the official launch day i.e. June 24th.
In a reply to a tweet, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) is confirmed to be unlockable, and probably so is the yet to be released iPhone 4. What they have actually got this time around is a new exploit for the latest 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 basebands, which they have been saving for months for a major new update - the time for which has now come.
The iPhone Dev Team has just released a near final version of Redsn0w 0.9.5 for both Windows and Mac. This beta release, like all the previous ones is meant for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only, running iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4). Apart from multitasking and wallpapers support on iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G, this version also brings support to enable battery percentage which otherwise is disabled by Apple.
It was indeed very sweet and thoughtful of Stefan Magdalinski, a guy from South Africa to come up with this great idea of wrapping an iPad in a chocolate bar, on the eve of his beloved wife's birthday. The guy in fact shot two birds with one stone. His wife is not only a chocolate lover, but also a great Apple fan too! And so he not only gave her that big 1.5 lbs chocolate bar which she loves to eat, but also Apple iPad all the way from London (iPad is not available in South Africa yet) which she always wanted.
Apparently, there is a working iPhone 4 floating around in Czech Republic whose camera pictures and video samples have been published for everyone to see. The Czech reviewer has also taken note of the battery which after an hour of playing games, surfing Internet, YouTube and using Google Maps, battery only fell by 10%, which is great for a phone.
iOS 4 is the first firmware in which Apple has completely cut off the support for aging original iPhone EDGE and iPod touch first-generation. Their decision of course is justified because of the low RAM found in these first-gen devices which were released back in 2007. But all is not lost as the iPhone jailbreak community has now come up with a mod, which brings the complete look and feel of iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) for iPhone 2G. The mod is basically based on the iPhone OS 3.1.3, to replicate the experience of iOS 4 on iPhone 2G (EDGE).
The title says it all. MacRumors has confirmed that the new Apple iPhone 4 features 512MB of RAM, which is equal to the likes of Nexus One, EVO 4G and HTC HD2 (HD2 has 576MB RAM), but twice than that of iPhone 3GS and iPad. For those of you who don't know, the original iPhone (2G / EDGE) and iPhone 3G had 128MB RAM, iPhone 3GS had double i.e. 256MB of RAM, and so did iPad. But with iPhone 4, Apple is taking the strides by doubling the RAM to 512MB.
