This is one of the most amazing and exciting times of the year for developers involved in building apps and services for Apple’s ecosystem. Yes, that’s right, today is WWDC 2020 keynote day and it is just a matter of hours away now!
For well over a decade, Apple, its executive team, and a subset of its engineering workforce have been lavishing attention of developers on an annual basis to touch on all things iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
The annual WWDC event has historically given developers some much-needed face-to-face time with Apple and its workforce in order to troubleshoot issues and to find out all about new features, functionality, and new APIs.
As you may be aware, this year is slightly different and takes an entirely new format thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and forced social distancing rules. Rather than have thousands of developers descend on California to cram into a huge building, Apple is doing what a lot of large conferences have been forced to do and is delivering the WWDC experience entirely remotely using online streaming technology.
The format may have changed but we still have expectations about the event itself. Of course, we expect the opening keynote to involve the initial introduction and unveiling of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. We are also very likely to witness a conversation about Apple’s next-generation macOS release, macOS 10.16. We don’t know the name of that software yet but we will in a few hours! Apple will likely take the opportunity to talk about watchOS, tvOS, and we may even get a surprise hardware announcement thrown in for good measure.
