After pulling together internal resources and rushing out a public release of OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 download to fix the infamous “goto fail” security flaw, Apple has today made another Mavericks related launch.
The Cupertino company’s last public release of OS X Mavericks fixed a flaw in the operating system that assigned a layer of vulnerability to users. With that now fixed, Apple is choosing to focus on the future by pushing out the first dev seed of OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 to those who are registered on the Mac Dev Program.
The latest beta in the development and progression of OS X Mavericks comes with the 13D12 build number and is launched just over seven days after the security fix. As is always the case with Apple’s beta builds of iOS or Mac OS X, the software is only officially available to those who are part of the paid Mac Dev Program. Individuals who are registered on the program can grab the latest beta build through the updating processes on the Mac App Store. Alternatively, the executable can be downloaded and ran directly through Apple’s Member Center website.
The accompanying release notes are sparse as usual, but the OS X team is specifically asking users to install the software to focus their attention on graphics drivers and audio aspects of the system. Although not included in the official release notes, it also seems that Apple has introduced additional support for users with MacBooks and 4K displays, as pointed out by 9to5Mac, hence the need for those installing to focus on graphics drivers. The newly added support for 4K monitors means that users can now allow Mac OS X to run natively on Retina-‘grade’ resolution for sharper content and an overall improved visual experience.
As explained by 9to5Mac:
Running OS X pixel-doubled on a 4K display means content is much sharper than before. It is the same as running a Retina MacBook Pro at standard Retina resolution or as using a Retina iPhone or iPad. The screen pushes double the resolution in the same amount of space in order to provide the user with sharper graphics.
The integration of additional support for 4K displays not only comes as great news for current users of the hardware, but it also potentially provides a little insight into Apple’s future direction, as well as their willingness to introduce higher-resolution displays going forward.
As always with software of this nature, Apple is advising to stay clear of it unless you acquire the download through your official dev account. Users are being warned that they will not be able to revert back to a previous installation of Mavericks are installing the 10.9.3 initial beta.
