Even though Apple bumped the multitasking credentials of its fleet of mobile devices with the iOS 7 update, it’s fair to say that even though the appearance and functionality has improved, the Cupertino company’s mobile OS still doesn’t offer “true” multitasking functionality akin to, say, the Galaxy Pro tablet series. But instead of waiting and hoping for Apple to deliver the goods, jailbreaker Evan Swick has come through with a very interesting tweak called OS Experience, and as the name implies, it allows a user to run apps in windowed mode, just like the OS X desktop. Although not yet available, the demo video, which you can catch below, looks very, very promising indeed.
With all the talk of an ‘iPad Pro’ hitting the market at some point in the near future, such a device would only speed up the continued amalgamation of OS X and iOS, and if the fruit company was to go ahead and release a larger, more powerful slate aimed at the professional market, you do feel that multi-window browsing would also be forthcoming. But we’re nowhere near patient enough to wait for something that mightn’t even happen, and luckily enough, Evan Swick, a guy that has the skills to turn wishful features into reality, doesn’t want to wait either.
The iPad Air, in particular, offers a 9.7 inch display – Retina at that – and the fact that one can only operate a single app at a time seems a bit wasteful on Apple’s part. OS Experience changes all that, allowing multiple windows to run in the same interface, and given that said windows can also be readily resized and moved about, it offers a true multitasking experience that Apple fans can only currently enjoy on a Mac.
As you’ll see in the demonstration video below, the tweak delivers the kind of experience that has been sought since 2010 when the original Apple slab hit the market, and for jailbroken iPad users on iOS 7, OS Experience surely cannot arrive soon enough.
OS Experience will be released in the next week or two, and Evan has informed us that it will arrive at a price of around $9.99.
We’ll be sure to let you guys know just as soon as it hits Cydia, and in the meantime, you can drool over the demo clip below:
