New data that shows the best-selling phones around the world has Apple’s iPhone dominating. In fact, only two of the top ten phones are Android phones.
The data, collected by Counterpoint Research as part of its Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker, shows that the best-selling phone of 2022 was the iPhone 13, shortly followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The newer iPhone 14 Pro Max took up third spot, with the first Samsung phone — the Galaxy A13 — in fourth. We have to go all the way down to the number 10 position to see the next Samsung phone — the Galaxy A03.
Other Apple phones that sit in the rankings where you might not expect, include the iPhone SE, a model that beats out flagship phones from the likes of Samsung.
Counterpoint Research says that it expects the table to change in coming years, while the sheer number of phone models available continues to shrink as companies try to offer a leaner lineup.
“We believe the share of the top 10 smartphones will increase in 2023 as brands focus on clearing inventory and optimizing their launches,” said Counterpoint analysts Harshit Rastogi and Karn Chauhan. “We also expect brands to continue making their portfolios leaner in 2023 to minimize cannibalization. The number of active smartphone models in the global market has already fallen from over 4,200 in 2021 to around 3,600 in 2022.”
It’s worth noting that Samsung’s two spots are actually an improvement over the previous year, where it only managed to take one of the ten available places.
