Here are OnePlus 5 specs, features, price and release date info after the company officially announced its new flagship earlier today.
OnePlus has finally introduced its latest flagship, the OnePlus 5, complete with the same raw power that you’d expect, but with an enhanced photography experience this time around.
Companies like Samsung, Apple, HTC, and OnePlus simply cannot get a product to market in the modern age without it leaking onto the Internet in one way or another prior to the official announcement. We’ve seen snippets of info pertaining to the OnePlus 5 over recent months, but we now know that the design leaks were accurate, with the Chinese company introducing a new device which bears a striking resemblance to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.
– Features
As you might expect, the company behind the new hardware hasn’t been shy of pulling any punches when it comes to packing in a comprehensive and impressive technical specification. The OnePlus 5 features latest Snapdragon 835 series processor, complete with an accompanying 8GB of RAM – yes you read that right, 8GB! – and an internal storage capacity of up to 128GB. There’s also a version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of in-built storage.
There is no option to slap in a microSD card or any other external storage, but OnePlus is telling us that the storage utilizes a 2-Lane technology meant to increase read / write speed. As for display, OnePlus has stuck to a standard 1080p Full HD AMOLED display, coming in at 5.5-inches.
The big changeup comes in with regards to the camera experience as OnePlus 5 packs in a dual-lens camera setup for the first time on its phone. The 16 and 20-megapixel lenses will more than pack a punch, with the f/1.7 aperture along with the iPhone 7 Plus-like “Portrait Mode” offering Bokeh shots. However, we’ll have to wait for a more hands-on experience before making any judgments.
There’s also an internal 3,300mAh battery, promising to offer up to 20% more battery life than the previous OnePlus 3 model.
The phone comes pre-installed with custom ROM based on Android 7.1.1 which looks stunning on the super-bright Super AMOLED display. Running its proprietary OxygenOS, the system includes a number of new improvements designed to refine the overall hardware and software experience. As an example, the device features a new software-powered reading mode that adjusts the colors and brightness of the display, which is very similar to Night Shift within iOS.
OnePlus has also made some changes to how data through the device is handled to try and ensure that it offers a smooth and fluid experience even when significant device resource is being consumed.
– Colors
You can pick up the phone in one of the two colors: Midnight Black for the 8GB / 128GB model, and Slate Gray for the 6GB / 64GB version.
– Price & Release Date
Pricing for the 128GB model with 8GB RAM starts at $539, or $479 for those who are happy with just 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Sales will go live on 27th June on the OnePlus online store, while eager users in New York City, London, Berlin, and Paris can be on the lookout for popup stores starting today.
