Official uTorrent For Android App On The Way

uTorrent itself currently has over 140 million users, making it the biggest player in the torrent application market. The news that the app is on the way to Android adds a certain legitimacy to the platform, especially with those who like to use their Android-powered tablet as a computer replacement. Their low power usage and silent operation actually make tablets perfect machines for running torrent downloads, too.

BitTorrent inc, the team behind uTorrent says that there is no current release date in mind for the software, but the news that it is simply being worked on is of significant note. Just reiterate, this is a standalone application and not a remote for a separate machine running the desktop version of uTorrent.

“Like any software company, we know a mobile experience is really important to our users,” BitTorrent inc. told TorrentFreak.

Details of potential features are understandably sketchy at this point, though it is almost nailed on that the app will receive much the same feature-set as its desktop equivalent.

With those 140 million users currently using the uTorrent desktop applications then BitTorrent inc no doubt sees the Android devices as a potential way to grow that user base even further. If the desktop space has already reached saturation, finding alternate markets is a wise move in anyone's book.

The news that an Android version of uTorrent is on the horizon does not necessarily mean an iOS version will be coming too. Apple is notoriously reluctant to allow and BitTorrent apps onto its App Store due to the potential illegal uses for them, and we can't see uTorrent being any different.

Android likes to think of itself as more of a computer-like mobile operating system than some of its competition, and it is on the verge of receiving the one app that any OS needs in order to earn its stripes – a torrent application.

The biggest torrent app of them all, uTorrent, is set to come to Android with the news that the development team behind the app is actively working on creating a native version of the app for Google’s Android OS, opening the door for tablets and smartphones to be turned into mini torrent machines perfect for downloading all those 100% legitimate Linux distros, obviously.
