Sony will be launching its PS5 next month and we cannot wait. We’re all pre-ordered up and while we wait to get our hands on that huge white behemoth, we’re watching the first PS5 teardown posted to the internet. And it just so happens it was done by PlayStation itself, too.
The full video runs for around seven minutes and it gives us the best look at the console that we’ve had yet.
We’re taken through the console by Yasuhiro Ootori, head of Sony’s mechanical design for the PS5. So he should probably know about as much as anyone about the console we’ll be getting next month.
The first point of interest is that the PS5’s base is held on with a screw when the console is stood up. Lay it down though, and there’s a clip that handles the job of securing everything together.
Inside we have a liquid metal cooling system that includes two dust catchers that can be easily cleaned out. Someone in Japan clearly heard about all the PS4s that collected more dust than a Dyson. Sony says it worked on the cooling system for two years.
Beyond that it’s clear that Sony wanted the PS5 to be something that could easily be serviced. Everything is surprisingly easy to get at and replace – assuming you know what you’re doing.
Check out the full video and you’ll be all clued up for when your PS5 arrives. With this look out of the way we’re now waiting for launch.
