The Pokémon World Championships – which are apparently a real thing – are currently taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C and while it’s no doubt an absolute blast for those who like that kind of thing, we’re not sure it’s really our cup of tea. That being said though, our ears tend to prick up when we hear about new iPad games, so the idea of a Pokémon game coming to Apple’s tablet had us interested.
According to a photo that has cropped up on Twitter, the folks at the event have been showing select people an iPad running what it seems is a version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, complete with touch-screen loveliness.
The folks at Polygon have reached out to The Pokémon Company and have apparently had it confirmed that not only is this photo legitimate, but that the game really is on course for a release on iOS at some point. Unfortunately though, the representative declined to give any kind of timeline for that release, which will be something of a downer for those who love them some Pokémon.
The Pokémon Company has already put a few apps out into the iOS ecosystem, with the Pokémon Pokedex being one of the more popular. The addition of the Trading Card Game would see the first real Pokémon game on iOS however, which is sure to be rather popular and, we suspect, live towards the top of those App Store charts that everyone likes to look at.
Pokémon has shown itself to be an game that is almost timeless and has already managed to find its way onto just about every platform going. The Nintendo DS and 3DS games sell like the proverbial hotcakes, and we see no reason why an iOS game wouldn’t be just as popular amongst the Pokémon faithful.
The only thing left to do on our side is to sit back and relax, and see when the Trading Card Game would land on our iPads. Did you notice how we said iPad here? Yes, that’s right, we don’t have word on an iPhone variant of the game just yet.
