BBCSports1

After the user has navigated past the small but informative tutorial, they are presented with a home screen where all of the news bulletins and top stories about each sport lives. Sporting news on the home screen is collected and displayed based on personal sporting preference, all of which can be edited from within the right hand-side sliding menu that takes more than a little design inspiration from Path and Facebook. Sports can easily be added, removed or moved up and down in order of preference.

The choice of available sports is impressive, with Football (European and American variants), Rugby, Cricket, Boxing, Formula 1, Golf and Archery to name a few, are present. If you want to see how Tiger Woods is doing in his latest tournament or quickly  want tosee how many yards Tim Tebow has thrown during the game, then everything is just a click away. One of the downsides to the BBC Sport app is the fact that a lot of the information is presented as a mobile version of the website rather than actually being parsed and displayed accordingly, but that doesn't detract from a great app for sports fans across the globe.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has a few of the most popular and frequently downloaded apps on the App Store. But they have now made an attempt to corner the iOS sports market with the official launch of the BBC Sports app for iPhone and iPod touch devices. The app is the corporation’s attempt at making themselves the number one mobile digital resource for sports information, and take it from us; it is rammed to the rafters with news, scores and commentaries across a wide range of popular sports.

The app takes on the aesthetic form of the company’s official sports section on their website, but with all of the information rendered perfectly for reading on the smaller mobile device. The information and sport based reporting contained within the app is all personally curated by a team of sports journalists from the BBC and packed nicely into a smooth and slick interface that is ladened with black and yellow. It is worth noting that like most news aggregating apps, the BBC Sport app requires an active Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to retrieve information.
