Office For Mac Getting Dark Mode On macOS Mojave

When Apple announced macOS Mojave during WWDC 2018 earlier this year, the headline feature was the arrival of Dark Mode, the ability for the system to switch into a black-themed look that many had been crying out for for years.

Now that we have macOS Mojave in the wild following its release last month, we’re finding that while Dark Mode is cool, it’s not necessarily as great as we thought it might be.

That isn’t stopping developers from adding their own Dark Mode support, though, and Microsoft is the latest to confirm that it will be doing exactly that. Microsoft Office for Mac will be getting a Dark Mode to call its very own.

According to Microsoft’s Office Product Manager, Akshay Bakshi, official Office Testers may even be able to get their hands on the update as soon as next week, and once the testing has completed it will be rolled out to everyone who has an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft is continuing to push users towards its subscription service, as is much of the software industry, and it’s likely that Dark Mode will remain an Office 365 feature in that same vein.

Whether you’re a fan of Dark Mode yourself is a very personal decision, and while some feel that it isn’t for them, others swear by it. Depending on the work you are doing, having apps and window chrome be darker than usual may be a real productivity boost with video and image editors in particular likely being most suited to Dark Mode use cases.

Thankfully, if you’re all about the bright white windows, Dark Mode is an optional feature across macOS Mojave.
