Nokia Set To Launch Lumia 800 And 710 Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Handsets

Windows-Phone-7

Expected to be shown off in the next twenty-four hours, the two smartphones will signal Nokia's first foray into the Windows Phone 7.x world, after they Finnish giant signed up with Microsoft in a deal which is believed to have saved the once proud phone manufacturer from an uncertain future.

Nokia will show off two phones at Nokia World, according to WinRumors sources.

The first is the handset we've all known as 'Sea Ray' for some time now, and its official name will be the Nokia Lumia 800. We think we prefer the codename ourselves, but maybe that's why we write about this stuff instead of being in charge of naming conventions at a technology company...

Styling-wise, the Lumia 800 bares more than a passing resemblance to one of Nokias other recent releases, the Nokia N9. That's no bad thing, as almost anyone who's had their hands on an N9 has come away waxing lyrical about its build quality, and premium-brand feel. We've heard the N9 compared to the iPhone 4/4S in regards to the way it feels in the hand, and we'll take that as a massive compliment for the phone.

The second handset to see the light of day will be the Lumia 710, or if you're keeping track of all these codenames, the Sabre.

Little is really known about the two smartphones, other than they will be running the latest release of Windows Phone 7.x, and have a shiny Nokia logo on them.

The two new phones are expected to go on sale in selected territories – read 'Europe' – in November, with the United States getting in on the act early next year.

Looking at the photos provided, the Lumia 800 appears to be the premium-looking device, with the 710 seemingly more of a budget option. As always though, looks can be deceiving, and until Stephen Elop puts foot to stage, we're just speculating.

We won't have long to wait to find out if Nokia has the hardware chops to help Windows Phone 7.x compete with the big boys of Android and iOS, though.
