It seems that Nintendo is really taking the mobile gaming thing seriously. After having insane success with Pokemon Go, and more recently with Super Mario Run, the American arm of the Japanese-based business has officially taken to Twitter to announce its latest foray into mobile gaming; Fire Emblem Heroes, coming to iOS and Android next month.
The game itself will be a little different from what has been offered with the likes of Super Mario Run and Pokemon Go via Niantic Labs. Nintendo is marketing the game as a new tactical roleplaying experience for iOS and Android set in the Fire Emblem environment, featuring a number of well-known characters from that franchise.
Gamers will have the opportunity to not only interact with the characters as they journey through the game, but to also upgrade them to new levels and introduce new abilities based on that progression. Nintendo’s introduction of Fire Emblem Heroes focuses on the gameplay, and the fact that the title will be released with a new original storyline that will see two bitter rival kingdoms coming together in what will likely be an epic clash of superpowers.
Those who opt to download and play the game, either on iOS or Android, will be charged with taking on the role of summoners, and will be given the responsibility of calling various Fire Emblem characters into battle, with each of those battles happening on a 8×6 square tiles, presumably chosen to enable a better experience on the small screen of a smartphone.
As part of the release, Nintendo will be adopting the free-to-play philosophy, meaning that device owners will be able to get Fire Emblem Heroes as a free-of-charge download with free access to gameplay. It will then offer additional and optional in-app purchases designed to augment the game and make it more enjoyable and easier to progress.
The accompanying tweet from Nintendo America has also confirmed that Nintendo will release Fire Emblem Heroes onto iOS and Android at the same time, with both versions hitting the relevant app stores this coming February 2nd. With Fire Emblem Heroes now confirmed as being added to Nintendo’s previous ventures into mobile gaming, we just need a concrete release date for Animal Crossing.
Excited about this release? Android users can head over to the Google Play Store right now to pre-register and be notified as soon as the app lands on the store.
