If you’re looking to get your hands on a new iPhone with a periscope camera you’re likely to have to go with the iPhone 15 Pro Max when it is announced later this year. But that will all change in 2024, according to a new report.
While we’ve been told to expect the periscope camera to only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max this September, it’s said that the iPhone 16 Pro will also benefit from the technology that will likely allow for improved zoom capabilities.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that’s because the phone will have a slightly bigger chassis thanks to a larger display, giving Apple the additional internal space required to make a periscope camera possible.
The display size of the iPhone 16 Pro will be slightly larger than the iPhone 14/15 Pro’s 6.1″, allowing the 16 Pro to equip with a periscope camera thanks to larger internal space. It’s expected that iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pro will have periscopes (vs. only Pro Max among the 15 series). Cowell will likely be the CCM supplier for the iPhone 16 periscope in 2024.
It still hasn’t been confirmed exactly how big the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max displays will be, but we’re expecting something around the 6.3 and 6.9-inch mark respectively.
Apple still has to get the iPhone 15 lineup out the door before we get that far of course. The new phones are expected to be announced in the first part of September before likely going on sale around ten days later.
New Apple Watches will also likely be announced around the same time, while the Reality Pro AR/VR headset could also go on sale around that time of the year after being announced at the upcoming WWDC23 event in June.
