As much as we are all looking forward to seeing what Apple has produced with the aesthetics of the next-generation iPhone, as well as finding out exactly what they have in store for us regarding device technical specifications, the already-committed amongst us are just waiting to find out when we can get our hands on the new piece of kit. As an iPhone owner from day one, my mind is already made up about the sixth-generation iteration and I will most certainly be adding it to my growing collection of Apple hardware. The only question remaining is; when?
The all important media event is still looking like it will go ahead on September 12th, with Apple reportedly planning their usual product introduction for the new iPhone. It has been speculated in the past that Apple have penned in September 21st as the the all-important day of release, and it seems that this is still the case with the addition of initial pre-orders being taken immediately after the hardware announcement. If the pre-order speculation is true, then it looks like it could be another long day of Apple’s online store servers being hammered from all angles as excited fans attempt to get their order in before stock runs out. Let’s hope Apple have made some behind the scenes adjustments to their online sales platform.
The same reports that have hinted at the possible pre-order set-up are also suggesting that Apple is planning on introducing their secondary wave of sales to the wider international market during the early stages of October. We have always seen in the past that the company introduce their products on a staggered basis in certain territories, with the possibility that international consumers could be able to get their hands on the new elongated iPhone around October 5th. At this stage it isn’t known whether the international distribution applies in October or all countries outside of the United States, or if the residents of the United Kingdom and other European Countries will be able to order the device on September 12th as we have seen in the past.
It isn’t long until we actually find out officially what Apple have in store for us, and as always, they are remaining publicly tight-lipped about what they have planned for the event. Will we see just the introduction of the iPhone? Will we see a whole new line if products during the same event such as the speculated new iPod touch and the baby iPad? When the PR team begins pushing out the official invitations to media outlets, we will see what we can decipher from the artwork.
